What a Diff'rence a Day Made
What a diff'rence a day made
Twenty-four little hours
Brought the sun and the flowers
Mm, where there used to be rain
"What a Diff'rence a Day Made,” aka “What A Difference a Day Makes,” (1934). Originally a Spanish song composed by Maria Grever, “Cuando Vuelva a Tu Lado" ("When I Return to Your Side") recorded by Eydie Gormé and Trio Los Panchos. English lyrics by Stanley Adams. Made famous by Dinah Washington, (1959).
Why this song, why now?
It was as if I was becalmed in the doldrums. The dread of Trump defeating Biden, Biden refusing to listen to anyone outside his closed circle of advisors, and wondering where to relocate when the inevitable occurs had taken the wind out of me. Then Biden announced that he would not seek another term. A fresh gust picked up my spirits soon becoming a full-blown blast as a newly minted Kamala Harris appeared filled with the wind at her back to become a viable candidate.
What I hadn’t realized was that the vice president had learned to speak with eloquence and passion, to smile and act relaxed, and to be someone I wanted to see and hear. Even more importantly, I was not alone in my enthusiasm. Issues of economic success, freedom of choice, gun violence, picking the next Supreme Court justices, and keeping Trump away from the White House would propel her forward with an outpouring of financial and volunteer support.
So, I’ve shelved my search for another country. Soon I dug a bit deeper into my pocket to offer her and other Democrat candidates financial support. I understand that there are lots that might derail her one-hundred-day momentum into the presidency. But for now, Whoopie!
What a diff’rence a day made.
